The working lines that paved the way for the future of working Terriers in America
Welcome to One of One Kennels, where our sole focus is to preserve and maintain the exceptional working qualities of Patterdale Terriers from some of the world’s most respected, tried, and proven bloodlines. We pay homage to the dedicated men across the pond who continue to use this remarkable breed for its original purpose, and we are fully committed to honoring and preserving this legacy here in the U.S.
Our kennels house some of the finest B. Nuttall bloodlines available in America. We're proud to be home to dogs with lineage tracing back to legendary breeders like Warren and Schwab. Warren was known for producing top-tier working terriers, such as Warren's Bud and Warren's Gamble, while Schwab’s breeding program is world-renowned for its focus on the “hard, thoroughbred, smooth-coated, bully-headed, right-sized Patterdale type.” Our lines include Schwab's famous Digger dog and Nuttall's Jet, ensuring that the bloodlines we preserve reflect the true essence of the breed.
In addition to these renowned bloodlines, we are proud to house the most diverse and extensive population of A. Cocker blood in the world. A. Cocker, like B. Nuttall, is a respected name within the Patterdale Terrier breed, known for producing dogs with exceptional drive, grit, and working ability. No other kennel globally offers a more diverse gene pool of A. Cocker blood than One of One Kennels. By maintaining this rich variety, we ensure that our dogs represent the very best of what the Patterdale Terrier breed has to offer.
Thank you for visiting One of One Kennels. We are passionate about preserving these extraordinary working breeds and are dedicated to maintaining the heritage and excellence of the bloodlines we keep.
At One of One Kennels, we take great pride in registering our terriers with the Patterdale Terrier Club of America (PTCA), the oldest, largest, and most respected registry for Patterdale Terriers in the world. Established in 1993, the PTCA boasts a comprehensive database of tens of thousands of terriers and serves dedicated breeders and fanciers across nine different countries.

The PTCA now days is known for its ease of use, with a streamlined online registration process that allows members to quickly and efficiently register their dogs. In addition to maintaining accurate breed records, the PTCA plays a vital role in promoting the Patterdale Terrier by hosting and sponsoring events worldwide. Affectionately referred to as the PTCA by its community of breeders and enthusiasts, this registry is a cornerstone of the breed’s heritage and tradition. At One of One Kennels, we are honored to contribute to and uphold this remarkable legacy.
We are proud to be the first kennel in the history of the Patterdale Terrier breed to DNA profile all of our foundation dogs, setting a new standard that no other kennel has matched to this day. Additionally, we have registered our dogs with all the major registries to combat the widespread "paper hanging" that some have used to profit off of our dogs’ names.
While pedigree is important, the real measure of a Patterdale Terrier is its working ability. Bottom line: you can have a dog with an impressive pedigree, but if it won’t work, it’s not a true representative of the Patterdale. You can register your dogs with the PTCA, ADBA, UKC, or CKC, as we have done, but if your dog comes from lines that were never put to the test in the field, you’ll end up with dogs that by our standard are subpar. Breeding from dogs that have never worked will only produce more of the same.
In this breed, paperwork means only so much if the dog can't perform its intended job.
Every digging dog is a terrier, but not every terrier is a digging dog. In fact, the vast majority of terriers today are not of digging quality. A true digging dog stands several classes above the average terrier in terms of working ability. While there’s nothing wrong with working terriers above ground, and many enjoy that style of hunting, it's crucial that anyone breeding and offering Patterdales to the public does so with the breed’s original purpose in mind. Patterdales should be dug to, as they were bred for this specific work.
This is the only way to ensure that the right dogs are bred and that the breed’s quality and integrity remain intact. The Patterdale is the world’s premier digging dog—its job is to locate, enter, and hold until it is dug to. And it should do this independently, without assistance.
At our kennel, many of our dogs have never worked above ground, because that’s not what they were created for. When a man from the UK or Ireland speaks about his Patterdale’s work, you can be sure he means digging, even if he doesn’t say the word. It’s such a deeply ingrained fact that it goes without saying. This level of work is what sets a true Patterdale Terrier apart.
There was a time when this bloodline was kept in the hands of only a select few in the states. In fact for a long time the only example of the bloodline most fanciers in the states got were a handful of photos.
Having good friends in the dog world, resources, and the eye for recognizing quality genetics from the moment we worked behind a few of them, we quickly realized we had found an exceptional working bloodline. From the start, we were eager to share our dogs and work them alongside others, both near and far. Initially, some thought our praise for these dogs was just hype, but time has proven their value—they have become a cornerstone for the future of the breed in America. Today, many breeders keep dogs directly from our yard or closely related to our lines.
We proudly maintain the broadest gene pool of A.C. (Cocker) bred dogs in the WORLD. In fact, we have found only one other person worldwide with a comparable variety of genetics from this family of dogs. We've hunted and dug to more of these dogs than anyone else in the U.S.
We are the home of notable Cocker-bred dogs like Cocker's Mayhem, Medusa, Malachi, and DC. Additionally, we own Candy, a direct daughter of A.C.'s legendary Blitz (aka Soldier Dog), Jezebel, a daughter of A.C.'s Rocco, and Bronson, a son of the renowned Capone dog. This bloodline is known for being extremely game, hard, and possessing remarkable locating ability. Originally from England, this line moved to Ireland when A.C. relocated, and it remains one of the most sought-after Patterdale bloodlines. However, very few people possess this bloodline, and most only have one or two dogs from it.
We would like to give a personal "Thank you !" to Alan Cocker for supplying the accurate pedigrees for the dogs that were imported into the states for the PTCA registry.
In our experience, the Warren-bred dogs have been nothing short of exceptional! They possess an incredible drive and an unwavering focus on hunting above all else. The dogs in our kennel are bred from the legendary Warren's Bud and the renowned Gamble bitch. Bud is a true icon—esteemed breeders and huntesr, including Mr. Edwards, vouch for his working abilities. It's said that he could locate game where others could not and held it steadfastly, regardless of the circumstances.
This bloodline is even rarer than the aforementioned A.C. blood, and to our knowledge, we are the only ones in the States who have imported it. The crossbreeding of this blood with our A.C. dogs has yielded remarkable results, and we have thoroughly enjoyed working with these intense workers. Our dog, Orus, carries a significant amount of this blood, complemented by a touch of Schwab genetics. Similarly, our dog Baby also possesses some Warren and Schwab blood, which helps to tie everything together beautifully.
At One of One Kennels, we proudly maintain the R. Schwab bloodline, which traces back to his legendary digger dog through the exceptional Busty Anne female. This bloodline has made a significant impact on working dogs worldwide, proving its versatility both above and below ground.
The genetics we keep are among the tightest available globally, closely linked to G. Mason's Jet and R. Schwab's Busty Anne. This unique lineage was intentionally bred to exhibit a bully appearance and a powerful method of engaging with game, and we have consistently observed these traits in our dogs. Their remarkable ability to handle game with tenacity and confidence exemplifies the true working qualities of this distinguished bloodline. Whether on the hunt or in the field, the R. Schwab dogs are a testament to the legacy of outstanding working terriers, and we are dedicated to preserving and enhancing their remarkable abilities.
Clint is hands down one of the best and well know producers in the world. Clint is a cross of Schwab blood (which is a blend fo Pickaxe blood and Nuttall blood.) and old Booth blood. There are others in the states that have dogs down from him such as C.K. and others. We've had great success crossing clint to our cocker bitches and we've also made breedings with him that were hand selected by R. Booth himself. This blood solidifies the crosses that we have. And add even more power to the stacked deck we are lucky enough to call our kennel.
